is just around the corner.

I have been searching for the perfect message for my hubby’s Valentine’s card.

{ natural pain relief }

Feeling a little under the weather? My hubby and our youngest daughter Destiny have been feeling sick for the last few days.
I am always on the lookout for natural alternatives to pain relief, plus I have many that I already use at home. I love home remedies and like to avoid popping pills to feel better.

Home remedies for natural headache relief. When I first notice the pain of a headache beginning, I try one of the following:

Applying heat to the back of the neck. Heat can loosen up the muscles that tighten with tension headaches. I love my handmade heating pad filled with peppermint and flax seeds.
Take a hot bath with a healing herbal tea blend.
Drinking one or two cups of peppermint tea.
Boil five to seven rosemary leaves in a cup of boiling water, remove leaves. Add some honey, wait three minutes, and drink.
Rub some of my “Headache Calmer Relief Balm” on my temples and forehead.

There are a number of herbs that can help relieve headaches naturally. Peppermint being one of them and I have included many others in my Headache Balm. My balm includes an essential oil blend of peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus, tangerine, rosehip and cedar wood. This balm is available in my shop at Paula Parrish on Etsy.

Herbal bath teas have wonderful healing properties. Try out this amazing blend from The Loose Leaf on Etsy. This organic Pink rose and Green tea blend has a fresh and mild aroma. { busy start to 2012 }

Over the past week I have been consumed with purge, cleaning and organizing my home.

I found some wonderful storage ideas on Pinterest, of course everything is on Pinterest.

I just love that web site.

I am always amazed by the inspiring photos, ideas and tutorials.

We had a garage sale last weekend and unloaded a huge amount

and I mean a gigantic amount of stuff,

plus made some money to boot. Woo Who!

On Sunday I had some girl time with my Mom, myself and my youngest daughter Destiny.

We got together visited and made some handmade cards.

Here is a Thank You card that I made with some paper that I had on hand

and my very favorite Stampin’ Up stamp and punch.

We are all super busy this time of the year during the Holidays.

I enjoyed making cut out sugar cookies with my girls.

Oh, no!

After we completed our Gingerbread House there was a earth quake.

I always fit in a little me time

and my latest obsession is homemade body scrubs.

My skin feels so super soft after I treat my entire body

with a homemade scrub in the shower.

Here is a recipe that I enjoy.

Chocolate Honey Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

3 Tbs. cocoa powder

1 cups honey

1 cups sugar

1/4 cup olive oil

Directions:

Combine honey and oil in bowl. Stir in chocolate and sugar mixing completely. Consistency should be grainy and thick. Apply scrub to skin in a circular motion and gently massage all over the body. Remove with warm water in the shower. Use this treatment once a week.

Benefits:

Increases circulation and aids in ridding body of toxins. Honey provides a moisturizing effect as well as fighting damaging free radicals. Cocoa powder has a super high mineral content. Minerals such as copper, iron, manganese, magnesium and zinc for the promotion of cell growth, the repair of tissue and the absorption of nutrients.

String Ornament Tutorial

I have seen pretty handmade String Christmas Ornaments

popping up all over the internet.

So, Desitny and I decided to make a few ornaments as gifts

and a few to keep for our tree at home.

I was so pleased with the out come that I decided to share this tutorial here on my blog.

String Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Supplies Needed:

Water Balloons

Glue

String

Paint Brush

Water

Disposable Tray

Step 1:

Blow up balloons into small round shapes.

Step 2:

Thin glue with water.

Step 3:

Coat balloon with glue using a paint brush.

Step 4:

Wrap balloons with string.

Step 5:

Let dry overnight.

Step 6:

The next day pop balloon with push pin and remove balloon.

Step 7:

Embellish your new ornaments.

{ advent calendar }

It is hard to believe that it is December 9th today!

I am excited about the upcoming Holiday

and it is starting to look like Christmas around our home.

Yesterday I tossed around the idea of making some handmade Christmas cards.

No go, so I decided to make a Muffin Tin Advent Calendar

for Destiny while she was at school.

Ideas for these fun calendars have been popping up all over

Pinterest in the last few weeks.

Everything is on Pinterest. Don't you agree? I love Pinterest.

I went out and picked up a few yummy trinkets and candies to fill the tin.

I decided to go with a standard cupcake pan with twelve spots

instead of a mini twenty pan so I could fit more goodies in the holes

and she will start opening the gifts next week on the thirteenth.

I can’t wait to see the excitement in her eyes when she opens the first gift.

Sweet Sweet Oatmeal

I basically enjoy oatmeal every morning for breakfast. I believe that I’ve tried almost everything in it from nuts, fruit, brown sugar, cinnamon, blueberries and on and on. I love it! Oatmeal is not just for breakfast. You may be surprised to learn that oatmeal; yes this wonderful breakfast cereal which is now being served at McD’s; is awesome for your skin. Oatmeal is one of the best natural treatments for dry skin. Oatmeal helps to relieve dryness, restoring natural moisture balance to aid in healing minor skin irritations.

I love to enjoy a simple and quick oatmeal facial at home and I would like to share the recipe with you.
Oatmeal Facial Recipe:
To enjoy the benefits of oatmeal skin care you will need the following:
~Whole Rolled Oats (not instant oatmeal), found in your health food store
~Blender or Food Processor
Directions: Grind oats in blender or food processor until oats have a fine consistency. Pour into a jar, cover and use as follows.
Oatmeal Facial:
Pour a small amount of ground oatmeal into palm, and add a little water to make a paste. Apply to face and throat and massage onto skin. Rinse and follow up with natural moisturizer.
Here is a treasure that I created in Etsy using the search word Oatmeal.

I have just created a new batch of my Honey Bee Oats & Cinnamon soap. This soap is loaded with oatmeal. This oatmeal soap will remove surface dirt and impurities while providing a very gentle exfoliation, leaving skin smooth, soft, and clean.

Duck Tape Crafts

Growing up in a creative household my family was always busy making things.

My dad spent most of his time painting or building furniture.

His handcrafted furniture was amazing and filled our home.

My mom always had my sister and I busy creating handmade items

from sewing kitchen place-mats, embroidery projects to candle making.

My household today is no different we love making things.

I am always joking and making this statement about Destiny;

“She must be my daughter”.

At any give time you will find her busy making

cards, scrap-booking, crocheting, making lip balm

or her newest love making things from Duck Tape.

A few weeks ago Destiny started making Duck Tape hair bows and bracelets.

Once she had a stock pile of lovely hair bows and bracelets

she packed them in a bag and took them to one of our weekend craft shows to sell.

Yes, “She must be my daughter”. Hee Hee!

Yummy Pumpkin Recipes.

I love the time each day that

I spend reading and following blogs.

I am proud to say that I have made some truly amazing friends online.

I would like to introduce you to one of those ladies,

her name is Sue with Country Pleasures.

Each week on “Tasty Tuesday” Sue features a yummy homemade recipe.

I love the recipes and I am sure that you will want to do some cooking with Sue’s weekly picks.

Here is my favorite recipe from this month.
Pumpkin Pie French Toast

This recipe is the next best thing to having Pumpkin Pie for breakfast with your coffee.

Did I ever have pie for breakfast?

Well I have had pie for breakfast, but only on a Holiday.

Yummy. I love Pumpkin Pie.

Yummy. I love pumpkin pie.

Pumpkin Pie French Toast

2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons brown sugar
8 slices of bread

Directions:
1. Mix the eggs, milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and brown sugar in low flat bowl for easy dipping.
2. Dip the bread into the egg mixture on both sides and grill in a pan until lightly golden brown, about 2-3 minute per side.
3. Serve with maple syrup.

Fall in Florida

I woke up yesterday morning and the temperatures here in Florida had

dropped down to the 60s. Now that is really cold to us Floridians, brrr but I am loving it.

Fall has finally arrived in Florida. Yippee! Yay!

All of the apples that I pickup for a healthy snacks are just so yummy this time of the year.

We spent last weekend out at Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Fest

in Bradenton, Florida selling our handmade soap.

We are heading back to the farm this weekend to sell more soap.

We are planning to camp out Saturday night on the farm with friends.

The weather could not be more perfect for camping.

Surprise Dino Soap Egg Tutorial

8 Cups of Shredded Soap

(I prefer all natural soap lavender or unscented)

½ Rolled Oats

Add 4 Tablespoons of water.

Step 3

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and microwave at 50% power for 3 minutes. Carefully remove (caution will be very HOT) and stir gently. Repeat this step two more times; for a total of 9 minutes.

Soap will not be completely melted with translucent parts as shown here.

Optional: Place a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil.

Sprinkle then mix in a small amount of lavender and oatmeal.

Step 4

Place olive oil on hands as a barrier from the heat of the soap. Then carefully place soap in hands and shape into dinosaur egg. Complete this step quickly because the soap cools very fast. Place toy plastic dinosaur in the center of the egg.

Step 5

Roll soap egg in crushed lavender and oatmeal.

Let your new Handmade Dino Soap Eggs harden for a few weeks before you use them in the bath or shower.

You will have no trouble getting your kids to wash.

Your new handmade soap eggs will do a wonderful job getting your children

squeaky clean and will be tons of fun at the same time.

{ a creative life is a busy life }

I find myself super busy, busy, busy. I am so happy that I have a few extra hands in the way of valuable help. My hubby Chad has been busy helping me create wonderful new batches of natural soap. Tara and I finish up the final touches by hand cutting the bars, wrapping and labeling each bar. Thanks to the out pouring of support of our customers we have been busy filling, packing and shipping orders daily.

Starting next week we will begin traveling around Florida on the weekends to craft shows and street fairs. Here is a short list of some of the locations that we will be setup at here in the sunshine state.

A few years back I started to make homemade cleaning products

as a way to save money and to be Eco Friendly.

Striving to use products that would be safer for the environment and safer for my family (me included).

Here are a few recipes that I use when cleaning.

Microwave Cleaner

½ c. Vinegar

2 c. Water

Combine in microwave safe bowl, heat on high for 3-4 minutes, remove bowl and wipe down inside of microwave.

Dishwasher Detergent

2 c. Borax

2 c. Baking Soda

2 T. Citric Acid

1 Package of Unsweetened Lemon Kool-Aid

Vinegar for the rinse cycle.

Mix all of the dry ingredients and place in a container with lid.
Use about 1-2 Tablespoons per load.
Pour a few tablespoons of white vinegar into the "rinse aid" compartment of your dishwasher or simply pour in during the rinse cycle. This will help to keep your dishes from having a "cloudy" look!
You may substitute Kool-Aid or “Fresh Fruit” for the citric acid; which both are basically citric acid. The citric acid also helps keep the dishes from building up a cloudy residue. I have been using this recipe and it works great. My dishes come out sparkling clean. Love it!

Green Glass Cleaner
1/4 c. Rubbing Alcohol
1 c. Vinegar
4 c. Water
1 T. Lemon Juice or a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil.
3-4 T. Dish Detergent
2-3 Drops Blue Food Coloring (optional)
I use this recipe on all hard household surfaces, glass, marble, bathtubs, sinks and tile. Everything comes out “Sparkling” clean. The acetic acid in the vinegar is an effective disinfectant, deodorizer, and cleaner which will cut grease and soap scum, dissolve mineral buildup, cuts water spots, inhibit mold and bacteria growth.
Vinegar is a organic bi-product of fruits, grains and vegetables. It is therefore edible and biodegradable. Vinegar is very safe for the environment and for family members. It is also a very effective and amazingly versatile household cleaner that is very crazy cheap. It doesn't contain harmful chemicals, so if 'pour it down the drain' or ‘flush it down the toilet’ it has no impact on sewer and water treatment system. White vinegar has no real affect on the environment. I just can’t say enough about vinegar. The only thing that I'm not fond of is the smell so I often cover it up with a few drops of lemon essential oil.

On another note, now that we are in a fall mood.
I just worked up a new batch of our "Smashed Pumpkin Pie Soap".
This yummy soap was a big hit last year at this time and now it back for the season.

Pumpkin is awesome for your skin because it is loaded full of good stuff;

Just hanging out today with all of you wonderful ladies here on my blog.

I wanted to give you all a big shout out and say Thank You

for taking the time to visit me here again and again.

I thought I would tell you a little about my family.

I am so excited to introduce you to my oldest daughter Ashley and her young family.

Ashley has a wonderful smile and a warm heart.

When she walks into a room she has a way of making everyone around her instantly happy.

I am so blessed to have her in my life and be a Mom to such a special girl.

She is currently working full time and going to school to become an RN. I am so proud of her because she works so hard and is always just so darn sweet.
All of us ladies know how hard it can be a times to keep up with life.

Never ending laundry, cooking, cleaning house, working, teaching, playing and life surprises.

Did I say laundry? Oh yea?

She is a awesome Mommy to my very first grandchild Isabella; who is just 2 years old.

Ashley grew up in Florida surrounded by the big beautiful ocean and
she still loves to spend a afternoon at the beach.

She has chosen a very supportive, loving and handsome (oh yea, just look for yourself) young man to share her life with Geoffrey.

Together they have created a warm cozy home for their family of 3.

Who doesn’t love to receive a handmade card from a friend or family member? I know that I do. I get so excited when I receive a handmade card that I jump up and down an almost hyperventilate with excitement (silly right?). I was busy this past Saturday all day cropping with friends. I wanted to do a quick post and share with you some of the handmade cards that I created. I hope that when I give out these cards to friends and family that they will love them and have a big smile of Joy.

I used a bunch of new stamps; well new to me stamps that I got from a friend. The stamps included sets from Unity Stamp Company and Stampin’ Up. See I found a way to use some of my rolled flowers that I have been creating over the past few months.

I love making cards it is just so much FUN!

{ It's School Time }

I am feeling excited and a little sad that summer is over.
I am looking forward to many peaceful days coming up of working at home in a kid free zone. Most kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. My granddaughter Isabella started her very first day of preschool this week.

This is what her Mom said about her first day of school. “When she woke I asked her if she was ready to go to her big girl school? She said not yet and that she was scared, but when I came to pick her up she did want to leave.”
Luckily, these "new" worries only stick around for a little while.
